A CULTURAL TRADITION
OUR STORY
For generations in Puerto Rican culture, Coquito is a beverage enjoyed around the holidays. Culturally speaking, Latino celebrations are almost always connected to sharing a drink with your most beloved family members and friends. The creator of the original recipe is a mystery, but everyone from Puerto Rico remembers to bring the Coquito to the table! Most Puerto Rican families have their secret recipe created by a special someone. Each variation of this delicious drink is a twist to the standard recipe—one thing is for sure; you cannot make it without love and a strong Rum!

THE JOY OF TOGETHERNESS
Our Coquito is an old family recipe passed down to me from my grandmother, Juana Sanchez. Coquito has always had a presence in my family; many debates came from who could make the best Coquito. It could be my uncle vowing that coconut flakes were a necessary ingredient. Or, my aunt saying, “Coquito isn’t complete without a freshly cracked raw egg in the blender.” In the end, there are only three ingredients that truly matter in Coquito: Rum, Coconut Cream, and an island full of love.

Shortly after my grandmother’s passing on January 18th, 2017, I looked back at how much influence she had on our family and realized I want to have that same effect on people. As the saying goes, “you never know what you have until it’s gone,” and I couldn’t agree more. She was the main reason why we had celebrations as a family; she cared about all of us and made every effort possible to keep us together. That’s exactly why I decided to bring this to the market. I want everyone to experience the joy of togetherness, unity, and excitement that comes with every bottle of Coquito as it did for me while growing up with my grandmother around. My goal for every bottle of Island Coquito is to convey the sentiment and cultural value that Coquito brings to me. Whether you have had Coquito before or it is your first time, I want you to enjoy this beverage that I’ve enjoyed and savored for so long.
OUR COQUITO
Coquito translates to “little coconut” in Spanish. Growing up, my family enjoyed celebrating with Coquito. It is part of our culture, history, and who we are—marking a new job? You enjoy Coquito. Are we gathering at my grandma’s house for the holidays? Let’s pass the Coquito!
